Homework Policy

You may remember that we previously sought your opinion about homework. We asked both you and the children in school about the type of homework you preferred. From the answers that you gave, we revised our homework policy to reflect the wishes of both parent(s)/carer(s) and children.

Key Stage 1

Homework is set regularly for all Key Stage 1 pupils.

  •          Parents/carers are asked to read with their children at least three times per week. All children have a reading record book for parents and teachers to make comments in.
  •          Children have spellings every week. The children are to learn to spell these words and follow up work will be done in class to check that the children can spell these words and can use them correctly in sentences.
  •          Every week, children will have maths homework that is based on learning maths facts. This may include games to play to practise maths facts.
  •          Children have project homework once every half term.  The children will have a longer time span to complete this homework e.g. a holiday and a week of school.

Key Stage 2

Homework is set regularly for all Key Stage 2 pupils.

  •          Children are encouraged to read every day. Parents/carer(s) are asked to read with their children at least three times per week. All children have a reading record book for parents and teachers to make comments in.
  •          Children have spellings every week. The children are to learn to spell these words and follow up work will be done in class to check that the children can spell these words and can use them correctly in sentences.
  •          Every week, children will have maths homework that is based on learning maths facts or practising maths skills.
  •          Children have project homework once every half term.  The children will have a longer time span to complete this homework e.g. a holiday and a week of school.
Thank you for your continued support with homework. Your help at home supports the children with their learning.
