Free School Meals

Dear Parent/Carer,

Free School Meals

We are aware that many family’s circumstances may have changed over the last few months and would like to inform parents/carers of the criteria for applying for free school meals. It is important to register for your entitlement to free school meals, even if your child has a packed lunch, as school will receive additional funding (called the Pupil Premium) which we can use to help your child in other ways.

Children may be eligible for free school meals if their parents or carers receive any of the following benefits:

Income Support
Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
The guaranteed element of the Pension Credit
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Universal Credit with an annual income of less than £7,400 (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
If you get Working Tax Credit your child will not qualify for free school meals.

If your child is eligible for free school meals, they’ll remain eligible all the way through Primary School.

They will also be entitled to a free carton of milk each day and uniform allowance.

How to apply

If you think your child could be eligible for free school meals, refer to the Bradford City Council website https://www.bradford.gov.uk/benefits/applying-for-benefits/free-school-meals/
