At Peel Park Primary School we recognise that Primary schools have a vital role to play in supporting children’s mental health – teaching them the skills they need to recognise and deal with their emotions, and helping those with difficulties get the support they need.
It is important to us that children feel that they belong at Peel Park and that they feel supported. We work hard to ensure that children can develop positive, trusted relationships both with their peers and with adults in school.
At Peel Park we encourage a culture in which mental health and wellbeing are talked about openly and where pupils, parents, carers and staff understand the importance of good mental and physical health. Pupils and staff know who they can talk to if they need any support.
We are proud to be a My Happy Mind school - delivering weekly sessions to every class in school. Through this programme, we aim to prepare today's children for tomorrow's world by building resilient, balanced and happy minds both at school and at home.
In our Nurture provision 'The Grove' we offer bespoke sessions for many of our pupils. Some of our sessions in the Grove include building positive friendships, music and meditation, art therapy, fun and food Fridays. The aim of the Grove is to provide a haven for children who may need some support and encouragement. The Grove is used as an early intervention tool for children at Peel Park.
Much of our work in the Grove is based around books. We love to share texts with our Grove children and covered a wide range of topics.
We have a dedicated Pastoral Team, each with a unique role, who work together to meet the emotional and wellbeing needs of our children. We also work closely with the NHS Mental Health Support Team who are based in our school one day a week to complete dedicated work with some of our children.
We have our very own crew of Happiness Heroes in school who work with their peers to ensure that children are happy at Peel Park. We aim to promote a culture of kindness throughout school where everyone feels welcomed and safe.
